Why Are Timberlands So Expensive

I have always had a thing for stylish and iconic shoes. One might say that shoes are my kryptonite, and there is no other brand that attracts me more than Timberland. But the only reason why I don’t have a shelf dedicated to their shoes is that Timberlands are quite expensive.

I like many other budget-spenders had a bit of animosity towards the brand because of their pricing. However, once I took the time to read up on them, I could understand the reason behind it. In fact, it made me fall in love with their shoes even more.

Simply put, quality does not come cheap. And with Timberland boots, you get heaps of quality. Besides, their unique eco-friendly manufacturing process deserves a lot of praise though it increases the cost of their products.

In this article, I will share my two bits on the brand and help shed light on why Timberlands are priced so high.

How Much Do Timberland Shoes Cost?

Timberland has a variety of shoes in its catalog. And naturally, the price is not the same for all of them. A decent pair of Timberland can cost anywhere from 75 dollars to 150 dollars. Some models can cost as much as 250 dollars.

So, as you can see, this brand is not exactly the most expensive brand out there. When you compare it to big names like Gucci or Louis Vuitton it is actually quite moderately priced. However, it does cost a bit more than other casual footwear from brands like Vans or Converse.

Are Timberland Boots Worth the Money?

Well, whether a particular shoe is worth the price mostly depends on the user. I, for one, never felt like I was wasting my money when buying a new pair of Timberland. It is one of my favorite brands and its iconic style, to me, is quite appealing.

But if you are the type who is looking for an affordable yet durable pair of shoes, then it might not be the best choice for you. These shoes tend to come at an inflated price. And considering the marketing effort and strategies put into bringing these products to the market, the price does make sense.

Why Do Timberland Shoes Cost So Much?

I have seen many people complain about the pricing of Timberland shoes. So, I felt like this is as good a time as any to explain the reasoning behind it. Here are five reasons behind the inflated price of Timberland shoes.

1. Perception and Popularity

Timberland shoes are extremely popular not only among normal consumers but also among many celebrities. Many popular artists these days like Rihanna, Jay Z, and Mark Walberg wear these shoes and there are many photographs of them appearing with them.

Because of this, many people perceive these shoes as premium footwear. For instance, if you are a fan of Jennifer Lopez and see her wearing a Timberland shoe, you would want to buy one yourself. This is one of the main reasons why these shoes are priced higher.

2. Iconic Looks and Design

There are very few people out there who will not recognize the original yellow boots by Timberland. These boots have gained legendary status because of their style and quality. Even to this day, if you look up yellow boots in Google, Timberland is the first brand that you will find.

Because of the iconic status of the brand, more and more people want to buy one for themselves. It gives them a sense of being part of a community. The timeless design of Timberland boots makes them a desirable commodity for many. And the higher appeal of this brand makes it more expensive.

3. High-quality Leather Construction

But popularity and fame are not the only reason why Timberland boots are priced like this. The quality of leather used to make these boots are also some of the finest you will find on the market. And using high-quality leather to make boots is not exactly a cheap process.

Timberland uses a type of leather that they call Nubuck, which is essentially a smooth, full-grain type leather. It requires precise manufacturing and sanding so that your shoes feel soft and smooth to the touch. Due to the expensive production process of this leather, the price of the shoe also rises.

4. Sustainable Material Selection

Timberland is known for its eco-friendly stance and responsible leather usage. They use sustainable materials that have little impact on the environment which is quite admirable on its own. However, using sustainable materials to manufacture shoes is not exactly cheap.

Mostly the brand uses recycled leather and rubber for different sections of the shoe. Their Timbergrip technology in their sole is made using bio-organic materials. The use of these materials causes the manufacturing cost of their boots to skyrocket, which in turn, inflates its pricing.

5. Durable Build Quality

Since Timberland shoes are made using top-notch materials, they offer excellent build quality. A good pair of Timberland shoes should last you at least four to five years without any issues. And if you take good care of your shoes, they will last even longer.

So, in essence, when you are investing in a Timberland shoe, you are investing in a lot more than just footwear. You are paying for the brand and everything that it embodies. Sure, Timberland costs a lot. But if you want a durable pair of shoes, it delivers exactly as it promises.

Wrapping Up

You do not have to be a shoe connoisseur to appreciate the quality of a nice pair of Timberlands. Is it affordable? Definitely not. But if you are asking whether the price it asks is justified, then I would have to say yes.

Personally, I love the Timberland that I own. It has been with me for over three years and I have never had any issues with it. And if you are planning to get a new pair of Timberland shoes, do not let its price stop you. Just get it!
